It’s true, as an HVAC company, it’s our job to make sure your air-conditioner is functioning at the highest level to keep you and your loved ones cool this summer. Your air conditioner may be the most effective way to stay cool, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only way. When it comes to staying cool, Climate Care believes in diversifying your options. Not only will these tricks help your air-conditioner’s work pay off even more, they can help save energy, too. And that’s super cool!
Close Window Coverings During the Day
We love a view to the outside world, but did you know windows can let in about 25% more summer heat? At peak sunny hours, close your blinds or curtains and get a little shady for awhile. You’ll notice a difference when your home is less of a heat-box, and your AC won’t need to work as hard either.
Use Your Ceiling Fan As Intended
Many people with ceiling fans don’t know that they hold a special talent beyond generally circulating the air. When you look up at the fan, set the rotation so that it moves counter-clockwise. In the summer, this pushes the air straight down and helps to cool the space more effectively.
Close Doors Inside Your Home
If you’re not using a room, close the door to that room. Keeping rooms compartmentalized helps to more effectively cool them, which makes the biggest difference when it comes to the room you’re in, of course!
Consider a Cool Pillow
Sometimes a nice cool room is no match for a hot pillow in the middle of the night. Thankfully, we live in amazing times of great pillow innovation. Whether due to cooling gel, ventilating design, or serendipitous happenstance, the pillows that made this hot list manage to remain cool, no matter the tossing or turning.
You’ve heard people complain about the humidity of East Coast summers. Maybe you’ve even been the one complaining! The good news is you don’t have to stand for it inside your home! There are energy-saving units which turn off once the humidity drops below the target level, and you can use the accumulated water pulled from the air to water your flowers and plants!
Join The Weather Strip Club
Weather stripping is as helpful in the summer as it is in the winter. Cool air can’t escape, and hot air is kept on the outside. Weather stripping is cost-effective and easy to install. Get to strippin’!
When temperatures rise, it’s not just unpleasant sometimes, it can also be dangerous. To prevent heat-related illness, drink lots of fluids, and eat foods high in water content, like fruits and vegetables. Your body will tell you when you’re really thirsty, but doctors recommend getting ahead of that sensation for optimal health.
Spice It Up
It seems counter-intuitive, but spicy foods trigger a response in your nervous system to perspire just a little bit, which in turn cools you down! Capsaicin, a compound in chilies, is responsible for this effect.
We hope all of our treasured customers manage to beat the heat this summer! Climate Care is here to help in any way we can! We look forward to serving all of your IAQ and HVAC needs.
