3/5 Listen to (and learn about) the Music!
Europe: From Spain with Love: The Music of Isaac Albeniz
Classical music buffs, rejoice! Dr. Oren Grossman, classical musician and respected academic, presents tightly focused presentations that focus on one composition or composer, and feature informative descriptions and analysis, historical context, all culminating in a musical presentation by Dr. Grossman himself. People laud Dr. Grossman’s lively and engaging presentations, which often end with standing ovations (even if you are at your computer.) In this presentation, Dr. Grossman focuses on composer, Isaac Albeniz, who brought together virtuoso pianism, “the harmonies and colors of the French Impressionists Debussy and Ravel, and most importantly the rhythmic and melodic patterns of Andalucía—southern Spain.” The compositions are so technically demanding that Albeniz worried they’d be unplayable. Dr. Grossman can play them! The presentation concludes with a performance of selections from volumes 1 and 2 of Iberia.
On 3/6 Scribble Out A Drawing
We’re probably not doing much “costuming” these days, so why not draw more than the strings on your sweatpants at the Online Costume Model Drawing/Drink & Draw ? This fun, weekly Zoom event features a different model, in a different costume each week (3/6 is FAIRY GODDESS with Ariel Fahey @arielfahey) and is a great way to get social with friends and artists in a safe environment (your home.) You can dress up too, if you like! So grab a glass of something refreshing and get your art on one of these upcoming Saturdays! Tickets at: https://zoomdrinkndraw.eventbrite.com.
On 3/13 Get In The Paint
Jill Nichols- Online Painting Workshop: Abstract
More visual art? Yes, please! If you can’t go outside, you may as well paint the outside. You may know Jill from her recent painting workshops, “Painting Clouds” and “Painting Water.” In Jill’s next one-day workshop, she’s getting abstract. Working with oil paint, she’ll demo several ways of expressing abstraction. You’ll have the opportunity to practice those techniques and receive Jill’s real-time feedback. Recordings of the workshop will be available the following week. You can find more about Jill’s impressive professional background, get more info on her online classes, and watch other video lessons at her website: https://www.jillnichols.com.
On 3/17 Go Outside, Really
Sometimes, drawing the outside just doesn’t fulfill the need to actually be there. If you can, take a guided Winter Morning Nature Walk with the Connecticut Audubon Society. The Larsen Wildlife Sanctuary features rolling woodlands, meadows, streams, marshes and ponds. Accessed by way of boardwalks and bridges, the varied landscapes, forest and freshwater wetland ecosystems just may inspire a few photographs worthy of a painting. Fresh outdoor air is just as important to your health as fresh indoor air. Get out and let Mother Nature parent you for awhile. (Note: Participants will be required to practice social distancing and wear masks.) https://www.ctaudubon.org/2021/01/winter-morning-nature-walks-march-17-registration/
Inside or outside, there’s something fun-filled for you to do in Fairfield County.
